Gerry S. Ford was promoted to director of customer operations for Cox Communications. Ford will be responsible for all field, retail, communications center and call center operations for Middle Georgia. Ford was previously director of billing research and support, billing and collection operations and was managing director of performance planning and shared services for Cablevision in Bethpage, N.Y.
Mark Watkins was named director of marketing and sales for Cox Communications. Watkins will be responsible for residential sales and marketing strategies, advertising and promotions, product positioning and new product launches. Watkins comes to Cox after serving as director of sales and marketing at Charter Communications.
The Medical Center of Central Georgia has been recognized with a 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Operational Excellence for earning recognition as a magnet hospital. VHA Inc. is a national health-care alliance based in Irving, Texas. The award will be presented to hospital representatives in St. Louis this month.
Geico's auto damage department in Macon has been honored with a special Chairman's Award for service in handling customer claims following Hurricane Katrina. Geico's catastrophic teams moved in to help serve customers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama following the hurricane.
Bearings and Drives, a B&D Industrial company based in Macon, announced the company's president, Andrew H. Nations, has been named president of the Power Transmission Distributors Association. B&D Industrial is the South's largest privately-owned distributor of industrial supplies and services to mining, manufacturing and OEM companies.
Several small businesses have opened in Macon recently, according to the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce. Meadows Fine Jewelry, a boutique located at 517 Cherry St., specializes in making repairs and custom designs while offering Old World hand-engraving done in-house.
Kinetix Health Club has opened at Bass and Bowman roads and is a state-of-the-art fitness center offering individual plasma screen TVs on each cardio machine, more than 50 aerobics classes weekly, free child care, personal training and a smoothie bar.
Doherty, Duggan and Rouse Insurors have opened an office at 4875 Riverside Drive. The independent insurance agency, with offices in Albany and Cordele, offers a full line of services including property and casualty, employee benefits and personal insurance.
Wes Simmons has been promoted to commercial real estate agent at Fickling & Co. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Simmons began working for Fickling as an intern and joined the company in 2004.
Regina Bryant of Prudential Dynamic Realty in Warner Robins has been awarded the Certified Georgia Real Estate Instructor designation by the Georgia Real Estate Commission. Bryant is now certified to teach accredited residential real estate training courses to sales professionals. Bryant has worked in the real estate business more than 15 years, currently as an associate broker and lifetime multi-million dollar producer.
Bonita Gary has been awarded a child development associate credential for her work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C.
Robin Neisler is the new branch manager of MidSouth Federal Credit Union's newest office on Hartley Bridge Road. Neisler is a 29-year veteran of MidSouth.
Antique Mall Books has opened a second location in Georgia, now located at The Merchant Mall in Forsyth, 14 W. Main St., on the square across from the courthouse.
Carrie Taylor of Gray has started at AtHome America business, a direct seller of home-decorating accents. AtHome America has been decorating homes through home shows with collections of stylish and affordable home-decorating accessories.
Cox Communications was ranked number 32 in its first year on a list of the top 50 companies by diversity by DiversityInc. Cox also was listed on the list of the top 10 companies for African-Americans. DiversityInc is a business publication published by Allegiant Media.
