I was wondering if any organization ever gives presentations on end-of-life issues. I don't mean getting your papers in order type information, but actual last days, funerals and memorials, etc. I know this sounds odd, but it really is part of the life cycle and a subject not readily addressed.

The subject of your question is one that many people might hesitate to ask about, but one that should be addressed. As you so correctly point out, death, dying and final rites are definitely part of our life cycle.

"Final Wishes - Taking Control of the End of Life Issues" will be presented from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 9 at Senior Concerns Adult Day Center, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks.

This panel of professionals will talk about how to ensure that your wishes are carried out by the medical community, dealing with family dynamics and stress, and making wise decisions about funeral arrangements.

Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling Terry Smith at 497-0189. If you are a caregiver for a special needs senior, respite care is available with a reservation.

As always, there will be time allowed for discussion, questions and answers. There is no charge for Senior Concerns presentations, however, donations are always welcome.

If your renewal notice indicates that you will be required to take a behind-the-wheel test, then I suggest that you might consider taking a few refresher lessons from a local driving school. This would allow you to be observed by a professional, and bad habits, if you have any, can be pointed out and corrected.

First, if you have not taken advantage of AARP's 55 Alive class, I strongly suggest you sign up to take it. Most of the senior centers offer this class on a monthly basis. It has two four-hour sessions that review the rules of the road as well as address the changes that occur in our bodies as we age that most certainly have an effect on how we drive.

Completion of this class not only provides you with confidence about your driving, but also qualifies you for a small discount on your auto insurance.

In addition, the city of Westlake Village, in cooperation with Senior Concerns, is presenting "Will You Pass Your Next Driving Test?" as the next seminar in its Senior Issues Series.

This presentation is scheduled May 10 at the Westlake Village Civic Center, 31200 E. Oak Crest Drive. The presentation will be facilitated by the senior advocate.

The lecture provides hints on how to study for the written test and points out what you should concentrate on if required to take a road test. The presentation is geared to make the senior more comfortable in the test environment.

My suggestion is that if a road test is required, take advantage of all three of these suggestions. If you are only required to take the written test, then I recommend that you take both seminars. Good luck.
