“Under Gov. Rod Blagojevich, this state is now carrying $60 billion worth of debt. That's more than the entire budgets of many foreign countries,” she said.

Blagojevich, a Democrat, is destroying the state's economy by raising 300 taxes and fees on companies, and raiding hundreds of special-purpose funds to pay for such “warm and fuzzy” programs as universal childhood health care and day care “without any thought of what they're going to cost,” Topinka charged.

Businessmen interviewed before the event said they're frustrated with state government's failure to address their concerns in a range of areas, including health care, education and taxation.

“The current administration has tried to look at health care, but I'm not so sure that he's serious or practical about it. It's mostly lip service. The Kid Care program has largely ceased to function because the bills aren't being paid,” said Olson, whose auto-parts manufacturing company has 92 employees.
