Grand Valley Transit announced this week it transported a record number of passengers in March.
Rod Ghearing, executive director of Grand Valley Transit, said the agency’s new high of 73,765 passengers primarily stemmed from the rising costs of operating and owning an automobile, but customers also are responding to the quality of the bus system.
Ghearing said that as gas prices began to rise last year, more Grand Valley residents gave the bus system a try and, in addition to saving money on gas, he said they kept riding for the quality of service.
