An officer spotted the clothing outside a home on the Gilchrist County side of the river. Suspicious, officers went into the residence and found the two hiding in a closet.

The two, , 18, from Texas, and , 19, of Michigan, are being held at the Gilchrist County jail on charges including burglary and grand theft auto.

Honda remained at the top of the heap among stolen vehicles in the United States last year, statistics from the National Insurance Crime Bureau show.

Honda Accords were the No. 1 choice for thieves in Gainesville in 2004, data from city police reported. And Gainesville Police spokesman Sgt. said reports of car thefts locally this year indicate Hondas still are popular with thieves.

The 1995 Honda Civic ranked as the most-stolen vehicle in the country. The 2000 Honda Civic finished first in 2003. The 1991 Honda Accord was the third most-stolen car nationally for two years running. The Accord and the Civic finished second and third among stolen vehicles in Florida last year.

Last week, Circuit Judge announced he would resign effective Feb. 28. And Alachua County Judge has been selected by Gov. to fill a newly created judicial vacancy in the circuit, leaving a county judge vacancy.

The cream of the crime prevention crop will be honored Saturday at the second annual awards banquet of the Gainesville Police Department Citizens Academy Alumni Association.

Awards will be given to residents who have actively collaborated with GPD, including the dozens of active neighborhood crime watches in the city, organizer said. The Citizens Academy is an auxiliary crime prevention organization of GPD.
